Hawkins Way
This tiny garden on the edge of a suburban housing estate typifies what is left behind when the builders finish. The awkward L-shaped garden slopes away from the French Windows and the miserable six paving slabs pretending to be a patio.
My clients had young children and wanted somewhere safe and level for them to play, also an area for the grown-ups to entertain.
I built a deck in front of the French windows which is bordered on two sides with raised wood planters. The planters were constructed with ‘Woodblocx’ a modular landscape system. In the corner there is a granite ball water feature.
Stepping off the deck there is now a level lawn area for the children’s climbing frame and toys. A couple of steps then takes you down to the gravel garden planted with bamboo, grasses, and shrubs. These have all been planted through the gravel creating an attractive and low maintenance planting scheme.
The garden is ideal for our family; rain or shine the boys are outside kicking a ball or playing hide and seek in the bamboo whilst we enjoy a glass or two of wine on the deck.
