Cope House Front Garden
I was asked to design this garden after my clients had built a new conservatory. On first inspection there was a large drop from the existing terrace down to the threadbare lawn. A Jacuzzi was already in one corner of the garden and there being no divide between the front and the back garden it was all rather open plan.
A raised path now runs along the side of the conservatory from the existing terrace, curving around the building to give access to the front garden and lawn. This path now retains a raised border running around the front and side of the conservatory. The paths are constructed with natural sandstone matching the existing paving on the terrace and the retaining walls are natural stone.
To screen the drive from the garden I ran a fence along the top of the existing retaining wall. Below the fence following on from the new path a raised border now runs around the boundary of the lawn steadily reducing in height until it meets the new deck. The deck has been built around the Jacuzzi on the lawn to provide a second seating and entertaining area.
I divided the main garden from the front with a Yew hedge. The front garden is of a formal design in keeping with the facade of the building. Each border has been edged with box hedging and planted with lavender. In the centre of each border is an iron obelisk planted with climbing roses. Two Versailles Planters containing box spheres on either side of the front door complete the scene.
