A Town House Back Garden
Highfield House in its life time had been a small hotel and restaurant and when I first arrived to the view the garden I was confronted with a car park and storage sheds.
I designed a simple half moon lawn bisected by a curving path to give access to the car parking area at the back of the garden. The borders have been planted with a low maintenance mixture of shrubs and herbaceous plants.
At the back of the borders a Yew hedge has been planted which will eventually conceal the cars. To hide the obtrusive oil tank, trellis has been erected around it and Pyracantha planted against the trellis, this will in time become a wall of green.
A stone paving circle has been positioned in the left hand corner of the garden flanked by two Himalayan Birch trees this will provide a welcome shady seating area on a hot summers day. To complete the scene we positioned the base of the pillar from the canopy by the kitchen door behind the circle and on this we placed a large pot planted with Phormium ‘Yellow Wave’.
[Mike] created a formal garden of parterres at the front and side of the house that exactly captures the 18th century spirit of the Georgian facade and is delight to the eye.
